Issue needed development on SimpleBackups side and the team delivered in record time. For someone who has worked with tech and dev teams, I believe you did a great job within the time frame, bearing in mind I'm still not a paying customer.

DigitalOcean's native Droplet backups are weekly only, cost 20% of your Droplet price, and live inside DigitalOcean. SimpleBackups covers every surface of your account (Droplets, Volumes, managed databases, Spaces, DOKS clusters) on any schedule down to the minute, replicated to storage you own, at a flat fee.
Droplets (full image snapshots), Block Volumes (consistent snapshots), managed databases (Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis), Spaces buckets (files + metadata), and Kubernetes (DOKS: persistent volumes, manifests, secrets). All with one connected account.
Yes. We snapshot persistent volumes via the DigitalOcean CSI driver, export every manifest (Deployments, StatefulSets, ConfigMaps, Services, Ingresses), and capture Secret names plus metadata. You can restore a workload, a namespace, or the whole cluster to the same or a fresh DOKS cluster.
We use a scoped personal access token or OAuth authorization you generate from your DigitalOcean dashboard. It grants read and snapshot permissions on the resources we back up, nothing more. Revoke it any time and we stop cleanly on the next run.
Yes. Our integration uses the public DigitalOcean API (api.digitalocean.com/v2) for discovery and triggering snapshots, the same API that powers doctl. You can trigger SimpleBackups runs from CI or from doctl-style scripts via our REST API and webhooks.
In storage you own. Connect an S3 bucket, an R2 bucket, a Backblaze B2 bucket, a Hetzner Storage Box, or your own DigitalOcean Spaces. 25+ destinations supported. SimpleBackups never holds your backup data.
As often as you need, down to every minute. Common patterns: hourly Droplet snapshots, daily database dumps, incremental Spaces replication, weekly full archives. Use our GFS retention to keep hourly for 24h, daily for 14d, weekly for 8w, monthly forever.
Run a single command (sb restore digitalocean) or use the dashboard. Restore a Droplet image to any region, rehydrate a managed database cluster, pull a single Space bucket, or rebuild the whole stack. Selective restore is supported at the file and table level.
All of them. NYC1, NYC3, AMS3, SFO2, SFO3, SGP1, LON1, FRA1, TOR1, BLR1, SYD1. See our regions breakdown for details.
Yes. Spaces files and metadata are backed up alongside your databases and Droplets, on the same schedule. After the first full copy, subsequent runs are incremental, so a 2 TB Spaces bucket stays cheap to protect day to day.
Yes. We run logical dumps (pg_dump, mysqldump, mongodump, Redis RDB) outside the DigitalOcean backup window and stream them to your storage. You can restore to any Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB, or Redis instance, on DigitalOcean or anywhere else.
Yes. Connect one DigitalOcean account per client, keep their backups isolated in their own storage destination, and give each client their own dashboard view. Billing stays consolidated on your SimpleBackups account. Popular with agencies managing 10+ client fleets.
Flat fee, starting free, based on the number of backups you run, not a percentage of your Droplet bill. Teams running a dozen Droplets typically pay less than a single Droplet's 20% native backup surcharge, and get Volumes, Spaces, databases, and DOKS covered on top.
Yes. Supply your own encryption key and we apply it before writing to your storage. We can't read your backups, and neither can anyone who accesses your storage without the key.
