Understand how plans, limits, and usage-based features work.
SimpleBackups plans
SimpleBackups works with a fixed monthly or yearly subscription. There are three paid plans — Lite, Plus, and Max — plus a free Basic plan and a custom Enterprise option.
Yearly billing is available on all paid plans at a discount, and paid plans include a trial period.
What each plan controls
Rather than listing values that change, here is what to look for when comparing plans:
- Backup resources — how many backups you can configure. The number of backup runs is never limited, only the number of configured resources.
- Included SimpleStorage — the managed storage quota bundled with the plan.
- Minimum backup interval — the shortest gap allowed between runs, which determines the schedules you can use.
- Feature availability — several features unlock at higher tiers, notably multi-schedule, multi-storage mirroring, incremental backups, and disabling retention rotation.
You can always see the limits that apply to your Team, and how much of each you are using, from Settings → Subscription.
Each Team has its own subscription
Subscriptions are attached to a Team, not to a user. If you belong to several Teams, each one needs its own subscription. See Teams, Projects & users.
What happens when you exceed a plan limit
SimpleBackups does not silently drop backups. When a configuration exceeds what your plan allows — too many resources, too short an interval, a feature your plan does not include — the affected backup is locked and does not run. The dashboard shows which limit was exceeded and what to change, for example:
Your plan supports minimum 60 minute intervals. You configured 5 minutes.
You resolve it either by adjusting the configuration or by upgrading. Nothing is deleted.
Usage-based features
Almost everything is covered by the fixed subscription price. The two exceptions are:
- SimpleStorage — our managed storage. A quota is included in every plan. If you need more space than your plan includes, you upgrade the plan or enable auto-scale.
- Serverless bandwidth — bandwidth consumed when SimpleBackups runs the backup on its own infrastructure rather than on your server. A free allowance is included with every plan, which covers small to medium backups.
Some terminology, since these are easy to mix up:
- Backup resources — the number of backups you can configure. Not the number of times they run.
- SimpleStorage — behaves like any other storage provider, except it is pre-configured and included in your subscription.
- Serverless bandwidth — used only by serverless backups. SSH and agent backups transfer data inside your own infrastructure, so they consume none.
Storage provider costs
Your SimpleBackups subscription price does not include the cost of any external storage provider.
For example: you decide to store backups on Wasabi. Wasabi invoices that storage separately; your SimpleBackups subscription is unchanged.
SimpleBackups is storage-agnostic — you can plug or unplug any storage provider at any time, and our pricing does not depend on how much you store there. The only storage that affects your SimpleBackups bill is our own SimpleStorage.
