Common questions and answers about native cloud snapshots.
Cloud snapshots behave differently from file or database backups because they are managed entirely by your hosting provider. This page covers the most frequent questions about snapshot limitations and storage.
Can I download a snapshot?
No. Snapshots are proprietary images of your server, bound to your hosting provider. They cannot be downloaded or restored on a different provider.
SimpleBackups orchestrates snapshot creation, rotation, and retention on your behalf, but your cloud provider stores and manages the snapshot data. If you need portable, downloadable copies of your data, combine snapshots with file backups or database backups that can be stored on any supported storage provider.
Can I store a snapshot in external storage?
No. Because snapshots are proprietary images tied to your hosting provider, they cannot be stored off-site or outside of that provider's infrastructure.
If you need off-site copies of your data, use file backups to store them on any of the cloud storage providers that SimpleBackups supports.
